Summary:Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is known as one of the chronic diseases. People from all ages can suffer DM, but the people that usually get this disease are old people and those who are less concerned with healthy eating pattern. Despite of taking drugs, the main treatment for DM is healthy diet with balanced food composition. However, the diet arrangement for the patient is hard to be created because it needs the knowledge from the nutritionists while the number of the nutritionists is limited. So, it needs program to make it easier and give alternative solution for the patient to obtain a healthy balanced diet. Rule-based system diet consultation for Diabetes Mellitus patient is one of the alternatives from various systems that have been used to overcome the problems they faced. The aim of this rule-based system engineering is to make the user gets the consultation of the food composition and balanced diet program to help patient on healing process. The design of this system uses rule based reasoning saved in the data base using forward chaining and RSCM rules. This knowledge base is generated through interviews and library research from the nutritionists who have experience in the field. The result of the research can find out the diet menu composition that is suitable for the patient�s calorie need with 100% of accuracy.
