Summary: | Advanced biotechnological of in vitro culture provide alternatives means for
producing secondary metabolite of commercially important medicinal plants.
Methylripariochromene-A (MRC-A) is an bioactive compound that occurs in Eupatorium
riparium Reg. that is categorised as Asteraceae family. It is used to treat hypertension and
also indicating antifungal activity against the plant tropical pathogenic fungi and weeds
species, having cytotoxic effect on mosquitoes larva and BST assay. This plant therefore can
be potentially developed for medical, anticancer, fungicide, bacteriocide, insecticide,
pesticide and herbicide. Biotechnological methods of culturing in vitro plant tissues can be
used to produce secondary metabolites with short and continuous production cycles.
Concentration of bioactive compounds depend on environmental factors and genotype
condition. The aims of this research firstly, was to identify MRC-A on the leaf, bark and root
of E. riparium, and also to determine MRC-A on wasbensin extract of E. riparium leaves
collected from mount Merapi at Kaliurang, Menoreh hill at Samigaluh and Tawangmangu at
