Description
Summary:Hog cholera (HC) is a highly contagious viral disease caused by Pestivirus from family Flaviviridae. As an endemic area of HC, East Nusa Tenggara Province has applied a vaccination programme with HC C-strain vaccine to controlled the spread of the disease though the prevalence was still high. This research was aimed to know the influence of HC C-strain vaccination on antibody production in piglets with maternal antibody. Fifteen piglets, 15 days of age, born from vaccinated sow were divided into three groups : Group A : not vaccinated piglet (control), Group B and C : vaccinated with different commercial HC C-strain vaccine. Each group consists of 5 piglets. Serum samples were collected from each piglets at 0, 15, 30 and 45 days post vaccination (dpv). Their maternal antibodies and antibody production were measured with antibody competitive ELISA test. This research data showed that vaccination with HC C-strain resulted in production of antibody at protection level (sero-protective) at 30 dpv in all vaccinated piglets. The vaccinated groups showed no significant difference (p>0.05) at 30 and 45 dpv but significant difference (p< 0.05) were found between vaccinated groups and control. Vaccination of HC C-strain at the age of 15 days may stimulate production of protective antibody and could be an alternative way to give early protection for piglets.
