Summary: | Makassar is the capital of South Sulawesi, with an economy based on
trade and services that greatly benefited from its geography as the gateway of
eastern Indonesia. The enactment of Makassar as one of the 10 destinations
MICE tourism in Indonesia, makes Makassar city goverment to focus on
developing accommodation facilities and all facilities that facilitate the activities of
Meeting, Incentive, Confrence and Exhibition (MICE) for both national and
international. But in reality, Makassar is still not a priority in the selection of MICE
venue.
This study aims to assess and measuring the competitiveness of
Makassar as MICE destination especially from the point of view of the MICE
industry people in Makassar, so that later we can get the right advice to develop
MICE tourism industry in Makassar in order to have a strong competitive edge to
win the competition and making Makassar as a competitive MICE tourism
destination in addition to Jakarta and Bali. The method use mix of qualitative and
quantitative sampling as many as 46 respondents. The respondents are the
people who have been involved in MICE industry for a long period. The results of
the questionnaires are further described the perceptions of MICE industry people
on Makassar competitiveness as MICE tourism destination and what variables
should be developed in order to make Makassar can be more competitive as a
MICE destination.
The results showed that there are eight variables that influence the
development of the city of Makassar as a MICE destination: the facilities,
accessibility, transportation, the role of government, support of MICE
organizers, the price of the tourism product, destination image and
reputation, and the attraction. Based on the eight variables, 'facilities',
'accessibility' and 'support for MICE organizers' is a very important variable to be
developed in order to improve the competitiveness of Makassar as MICE
destination. |
