Description
Summary:The limitation of teak wood supply from Perhutani forest cause teak woods from community forest are widely used. Teak woods from community forest have high moisture content because the trees are not girdled as teak wood from Perhutani. The field observation was found that teak woods from community forest often used in high moisture content due to the limited drying technology. This condition lead the final products tend to defect and inferior quality. Moreover, there is growth stress in teak woods that can make the condition getting worse. This research conducted to girdle teak wood from community forest in a shorter period than Perhutani, which were 3 months, 6 months, 9 months, and 12 months. Moisture content, tree diameter changing and growth stress measured in each period and compared to ungirdled trees. The moisture content of teak wood from Kalibawang after girdling during 3 months, 6 months, 9 months and 12 months were 52.74%, 49.6%, 50.91%, 32.89%, respectively. The highest moisture content present in wood base and getting lower toward to the end. Radial distribution of moisture content become uniform from near pith to near bark after 6 months girdling. Diameter changing of teak wood after girdling in each period were -1.54 cm, -1.62 cm, -1.2 cm and -1.8 cm, respectively. Tensile stress on girdled trees have a vary value. However, it is lower than ungirdled trees, which is less than 1300 mikrostrain.
