Summary:Nowadays, the rational drug usage is the main orientation of pharmaceutical service. Every patients gets drugs as their clinic necessity in the rational drugs usage, in the suffice period of time and the lowest prices of the patient itself. One of parameter that can be used to measure the rationality of drug usage is by using valuation toward drug usage description, so this research�s done to see the drug usage description toward outpatient in Goverment City Hospital Sleman. This research is descriptive non experimental. The data was taken corcurrent as prescription of regular treatment patient who checked their condition in polyclinic, patients direct observation that is started from consultation with the doctor in polyclinic until the patients got the drugs, and key drugs (drug of choice) in RSUD Sleman that is analyzed by using WHO drugs usage indicator 1993. The samples were taken by using Systematic Random Sampling method with the quantity of the samples were 240 regular treatment patients and pieces of regular treatment patients prescription during April 2009 period that is divided into 25 working-days or 10 samples/day, with taking interval is 19 and the first number of sample that is taken is 11. Based on the research result by using WHO prescription indicator 1993, the result showed that the average number of drug per encounter was 2,16 R/, the percentage of drugs prescribed by generic name was 63,58%, the percentage of encounters with an antibiotic prescribed was 24,09%, the percentage of encounters with an injection prescribed was 0,19%, and the percentage of drugs prescribed from hospital formulary was 99,81%. However, based on the patients service indicator research result, the result showed that the average consultation time is 7 minutes 49 seconds, the average dispensing time was 10 minutes and 44 seconds, the percentage of drugs actually dispensed is 99,04%, the percentage of drugs adequately labeled was 98,06%, and the percentage of patient�s knowledge of correct dosage was 84,42%. From the research result using health facility indicator, it can be seen that in RSUD Sleman, there is hospital�s formularium (1), and the percentage of key drugs availability is 100,00%.
