Social values are very important for students, because it serves as a reference behave towards each other, to be accepted in society. However, social engagement and academic achievement widely reported decline during early adolescence. Exploration of social cohesion and social environment of schools still rare, whereas education practitioners can use the results of such research as the foundation engineering to create a schools climate more conducive to achieve academic success of students. The subject were 344 state senior-high-school students in Yogyakarta.The hypothesis was the students perception on schools environment has an indirect effect to the academic success of students, where students engagement as a mediator. This research was a survey on the subject of high school students. Measurement involves academic performance and selfreport form of social competence scale, students perception on schools environment scale, and students engagement scale. Analysis was performed using mediation analysis with multiple regression analysis. The results showed that the students engagemenl could be a mediator of the relation between the students perception of schools environment to the social competence of students with a model of partial mediation.
