ETD Giant gouramy(Osphronemus gouramy Lacepede, 1801.) fish value. Organ development of giant gouramy have a role for the success of the individual live and grow to fingerling. Giant gouramy has a unique structure on the gills called labyrinth and filamen (modified ventral fins). Information on the development and structure of both still unknown. The purpose of this study is to determine the development of the shape and structure of the labyrinth and filamen giant gouramy. Methods used include observation of morphological and histological structure using paraffin method, Bouin fixation, staining Hematoxilin - Eosin and Mallory Acid fuchsin. Labyrinth appeared at the age of 27 after hatching. At the age of 55 days appears the second slab and continue to grow to form structures folded. Labyrinth structure in the form of cartilage that has many blood vessels were enveloped layered epithelium lining. Modification of the ventral fins appeared first at the age of 29 days after hatching. Filament structure is a pair of hemitrichia composed by cartilage and collagen, covered by epithelium, and in the middle are nerves and blood vessels. The such structure of labyrinth and location in supra branchial chamber it was concluded that labyrinth as a respiratory organ, while filament structure shows that filament function as a sensory organ.
