Summary:The citizen journalism has influenced not only the organization culture of media and news criteria, but also the position of audiences. This entire time audiences or citizens are merely a consumers and their position is passive to information that produced by traditional media. With the emergence of citizen journalism, now the citizens not only become news consumers but also act as brand maker, discourse maker, and as news producers and consumers at the same time (prosumer). Based on these phenomena, this research tries to criticize the citizens activities in the citizen journalism media to see how is the commodification which done by the citizen. By using the method of computer mediated communication analysis and case study with the Kompasiana media as research instrument, the researcher found that the citizens who produce and distribute information on citizen journalism media are not always based on the economic and politic motives unlike the companies of traditional media. The citizen journalism room has become a medium to the citizens to commodificate themselves for the values that they want to reach. The result of this research also shown that citizen journalism interest the citizens�by those who have account in Kompasiana�to reach personal motives such as to get material benefits or to build a self-image or discourse. The utilization of citizen journalism which done by the citizens is a phenomenon of counter commidification which done by the companies of traditional media. This shown that there are symptoms of attracting each other in the room (market) of citizen journalism that the citizens not always react passively to the exposure of media and become a commodity by traditional media companies or the advertiser, but they also commodify anything as whatever they want to reach. Thus, this research is a rebutting the definition of citizen journalism that popularize by Curt Chandler and Jesse Hicks from Penn State University who said that citizen journalism is an citizens activities in publishing a content because their interest to a case without the economic motive or personal gain.
