| Summary: | The aim of this research is to find review the history and the spatial
changes of Cakranegara City since its establishment in 1838 to present. The
history of a town is an important thing to know because through the history we
can find out the identity of a city, so we can do better plans for the future. The
method used in this research is qualitative method, while the data were collected
through field observations, interviews and review of historical literature.
Based on the study, we know that Cakranegara city is an old town that
built based on religious philosophy of Balinese Hinduism under the authority of
the Kingdom of Karangasem. At that time the governmental center has changed
into a trade center and main service in Lombok Island. This study clasiffy 3
periods of the authorized government in Lombok Island, namely the Kingdom of
Karangasem, Dutch Government, and Indonesian Government. This review is
focused on the influence of authority with the policy in Politic, the system of land
ownership and taxes, culture, social and economic, which all of the factors are the
main factors in the spatial changes of Cakranegara city.
Finally this research concluded that the spatial of Cakranegara City has
changed as follow: (1) The Spatial of Cakranegara City has changed on the period
of Indonesian Government because the government was unable to control the
power of market/capital, (2) Activities centers that formed the city became sacral
space have changed into the city with only daily and profane characteristics, (3)
The weaken of cultural and social influences to the community and the more
strengthen economical influence to the community, and (4) The authority with
various policies has very big influence to the spatial changes of Cakranegara City. |
