This research discusses about the development of rattan industries in Indonesia that facing global market competition. On its period of development, this non-oil-and-gas commodity has been facing many internal and external country problems. This research tries to elaborate what are the main problems, which are the stakeholders dan what are the efforts need to be implemented through Global Value Chain Analysis (GVC). GVC Analysis has three main points in order to develop a commodity. They are rents, governance structure and upgrading. They help to maintain the competitiveness to face global market competition. The results show that government policy is the key, because its role is simply shaping the future of the industry. To maintain the global competitiveness of this industry, through GVC analysis, added-value though upgrading depends on the governance structure.
