This research elaborates ideological structure of al-Qas}�`id as-Siy�siyyah, an anthology of poetry written by Niz�r Qabb�niy, applying materialist strategy proposed by Terry Eagleton. Materialist literary criticism allows the research to question the truth of convention interpretation over al-Qas}�`id as-Siy�siyyah mainly focusing upon ideological aspects articulated in the poetry producing process. Eagleton asserts that literary pieces are products of textual internal and external aspect articulation. Textual external aspects comprise ideological constituents involving General Mode of Production, General Ideology, Literary Mode of Production, Authorial Ideology, and Aesthetic Ideology. While textual internal aspects refer to textual ideology dealing with transformation or textual processing of external elements. Based on Eagleton�s concept on materialism and over-determination, text must be seen as relation of ideological constituents which is reconstructed into somewhat autonomous textual terms. Materialist meaning is based on identification of tensions in the texts to reveal the ideology of poetry texts. The research results suggest poetry texts in Qas}�`id as-Siy�siyyah's anthology constitutes articulated political gigantism embracing authoritarianism, which dominates Syrian forces and relations of production. Such dominance resulted in a confrontational circumstance, that is, nationalism and capitalism that carries the spirit of freedom. Nationalism emerged resurrection movement that and sways the ideology of aesthetic in the form of free poems, which in turn put influence on Niz�r Qabb�niy's authorial ideology. In addition, the text dismantles ideological constituent structure, reconstructs it into its own terms, and changes it through aesthetic production to shape the ideological structure: spirit of freedom and resistance. The ideological structures of the text show public confrontation againts the ruling power in their attemps to return their citizenship rights, namely civil rights (the rights to be free), political rights (the right to choose), and economic rights (the rights to enjoy prosperity).
