Description
Summary:This study aimed to analyze the impact of higher food prices, especially rice price, on the welfare and poverty in Indonesia. The welfare impact is calculated using compensating variation (CV), and then this value is used to calculate the new personal consumption expenditures. The poverty incidence changing after the price changing shock is measured from the new personal consumption expenditure. Based on the empirical calculation using IndonesianFamily Life Survey (IFLS) 4 in 2007, the result indicates that poor households are the group who get the most loss, especially in urban areas. On the contrary, group who benefited from the rice price increase is farmer households, especially net-producer farmer. The overall poverty incidence rises by 0.44 percentage poin on average.
