This study aimed to identify linear and width craniofacial size differences in the right side and the left side of the Javanese, which is important for diagnose and orthodontic treatment plan, especially for Javanese. . The study was conducted after obtaining approval from the ethics committee for taking the postero-anterior cephalometry radiograph of 30 males and 30 females, aged 18-30 years, Angle Class I relationship, a state full of teeth, normal size, absent or mild crowding level and signed informed consent. Reference points used is ZA (Zygomaticus Arc), J (Jugal Point) and Ag (Antegonion), in each side, drawn perpendicular to MSR (Midsagittal Reference) as the reference for the median line to gain linear and width craniofacial size (cranial, maxillary and mandibular) on the right and left side. The results that analyzed using paired t-test showed that significant differences occurred between the right side and left side on the linear and width size of maxillary and mandibular Javanese males (p<0.05), while non-significant difference occured in linear and width cranial size in males, as well as the linear and width of cranial, maxillary and mandibular size in females (p>0.05). The differences occurred due to the possibility of genetic influence and environmental that Javanese culture is more often used the right side as a form of politeness, affected muscle activity and craniofacial bone development, but it still needs further research. Conclusion: the right side of linear and width craniofacial size greater than the left side only in the maxilla and mandible of Java males. Linear and width craniofacial size important in orthodontic diagnosis and
treatment planning as one of beauty value of the face determinants, were
influenced by gender and associated with genetic and environmental factors.
Craniofacial size also have different values in each race. This study aimed to
identify linear and width craniofacial size differences in the right side and the left
side of the Javanese, which is important for diagnose and orthodontic treatment
plan, especially for Javanese. .
The study was conducted after obtaining approval from the ethics
committee for taking the postero-anterior cephalometry radiograph of 30 males
and 30 females, aged 18-30 years, Angle Class I relationship, a state full of teeth,
normal size, absent or mild crowding level and signed informed consent.
Reference points used is ZA (Zygomaticus Arc), J (Jugal Point) and Ag
(Antegonion), in each side, drawn perpendicular to MSR (Midsagittal Reference)
as the reference for the median line to gain linear and width craniofacial size
(cranial, maxillary and mandibular) on the right and left side.
The results that analyzed using paired t-test showed that significant
differences occurred between the right side and left side on the linear and width
size of maxillary and mandibular Javanese males (p<0.05), while non-significant
difference occured in linear and width cranial size in males, as well as the linear
and width of cranial, maxillary and mandibular size in females (p>0.05). The
differences occurred due to the possibility of genetic influence and environmental
that Javanese culture is more often used the right side as a form of politeness,
affected muscle activity and craniofacial bone development, but it still needs
further research. Conclusion: the right side of linear and width craniofacial size
greater than the left side only in the maxilla and mandible of Java males. |
