Those criteria are already possesed by recent smartphones which have positioning featured, such as GPS, WLAN, and some spesific sensors. Utilizing some sensors as a positioning system is an interesting topic to further development because it doesnt depend on pre-installed infrastructure, so it can be used everywhere including indoor places where GPS signals / WLAN access points are not available. In this research, accelerometer and magnetometer sensor are used to estimate the pedestrian position based on Pedestrian Dead Reckoning (PDR) method. PDR is a pedestrian positioning solution by adding displacement to the known previous position. Moreover, our system is not only utilizing smartphone as an input sensor, but also implementing PDR method in real-time mode in the smartphone which has limited resources. Some experiments with system prototype were done with 30 test subjects walking in 3 routes with the distance of 51.54m, 77.79m, and 82.67m. Results from this study found that the system prototype was able to estimate the user position with average error less than 4.4% of distance route. Further development of this system is seen potentially be used in commercially field such as discount information based on users position in a spesific outlet in a departement store and in emergency condition such as evacuation navigation in the fire building where all infrastructures were down. Personal positioning system needs a portable, flexible, and cheap
equipment. Those criteria are already possesed by recent smartphones which have
positioning featured, such as GPS, WLAN, and some spesific sensors. Utilizing
some sensors as a positioning system is an interesting topic to further

In this research, accelerometer and magnetometer sensor are used to
estimate the pedestrian position based on Pedestrian Dead Reckoning (PDR)
