Summary:Southern coastal of Purworejo is an area that is often devastated by cyclones. In 2008 high winds occured up to knock down some trees and roofs off dozens of homes. The capacity of community to cyclones disasters at the sites needs to be assessed prior to the subject evaluation of disaster management policy. This study seeks to map affected areas and assess the community capacity to cyclones disasters. The method used in this research is participatory mapping with members of community who continued with the mapping run. Interpretation of satellite imagery is also done to see the condition of the area prior to the mapping run. To get varying levels of perception and capacity of research sites are conducted scoring to the public statement by Likert scale. The Result of this research showed that the distribution area was devastated by cyclones in 2008 covering an area of 0.95 km2 is uneven, with most affected population of objects in Ukirsari Village. The wind direction comes from the southwest to the northeast. Length regions crossed by cyclones in 2008 reached 4.30 km. Beaufort scale of wind force reaches 9. The maximum daily rainfall by month by the number of cyclones events showed positive association. The level of public perception about cyclones is classified as moderate. The level of community capacity in facing cyclones hazard is high. The result of this research is also analyzed using information system database WebGIS named Sistem Informasi Manajemen Dampak Puting Beliung.
