Description
Summary:Nano silica gel was synthesized from Merapi volcanic ash. Prior to the synthesis, sodium silicate was produced by fusing the volcanic ash with sodium hydroxide at 900 oC. The fused silica was dissolved in hot water to give sodium silicate solution. Hydrolisis of sodium silicate was done with HCl in the solution containing triton X100. Products were analyzed by XRD, FTIR, and TEM. The produced nano silica gel was found to be amorphous with broad diffraction pattern centered at 2θ 23o. FTIR spectra show that the silica gel has silanol (Si-OH) and siloxane (Si-O-Si) groups. The size of the particles is in the range of 2050 nm.
