Summary: | Microsporum canis is one of the dermatophytosis causal agent in dogs. This is a zoophilic dermatophyte, which means that although this mold is mainly found in animals, it can be transmitted to humans. Pathogenity of Microsporum canis is highly determined by the immune system of the animal. Therefore, Microsporum canis is more often attacks on young animals that haven't had the perfect immune system and adult animals who suffer from immunosuppression. The aim of this study is to know the description of the dog's skin histopatology infected by Microsporum canis.
Five dogs, under one years old, are used in this study. A piece of shaven skin from the left lumbar area is cuted and used as a sample of controls biopsy. Meanwhile, in the right lumbar skin area, which is shaven for scratches and infected by Microsporum canis. Two weeks later, the skin of the right lumbar section is cut as a sample of treatments biopsy. The sample of controls biopsy and the sample of treatments biopsy is cuted for histological preparation, stained with Hematoxylin and Eosin (H&E) staining and Periodic Acid Schiff (PAS) staining, and observed under microscope.
The result of this study showed that the artificial infection with Microsporum canis on dogs skin caused histopathologys changes such as epidermal hyperplasia and infiltration of inflamantory cells in dermal. In addition of that, there is also found some pieces of hyphae between infiltration of polimorfonuklears inflamantory cells in the epidermis with the PAS staining.
The effect of artificial infection of Microsporum canis in the dogs skin caused the hyperplasia epidermal and dermatitis by finding some pieces of hyphae. |
