Description
Summary:Ascariasis is a worm infection disease of birds caused by Ascardia galli. This parasite causes significant losses in livestock. As the preventive action necessary natural cheap anthelmintic, easily available and do not leave residues in meat and eggs, such as the use of noni (Morinda citrifolia). This aim of this study is to determine the effectiveness of noni (Morinda citrifolia) fresh fruit juice as anthelmintic against Ascaridia galli compared with Piperazine Citrate. Juice obtained by destroying ripe noni fruits with blender and then squeezed using gauze. The juice was made in concentration of 0%, 10%, 20%, 40%, 60%, and 80%. In this study, 7 petri dishes each contained 10 worms. Each petri dishes was filled with juice in appropriate concentration in 20 ml of fluid. Observations were done every 30 minutes to the number of dead worms. The result shows that the higher concentration of the medium, the number of dead worms are increased. At the concentration of 40% the worms were killed 100% in 240 minutes of bathing. Whereas the Piperazine Citrate was able to killed all the worms in 240 minutes of bathing. So the efficacy of noni fruit juice 40% same with Piperazine Citrate. However, when compared to the Piperazine Citrate, noni juice was more potent than Piperazine Citrate because noni juice has caused the first death of the worm in minute 60, while Piperazine caused first death the worm in minute 90. These results indicate that noni (Morinda citrifolia) have more anthelmintic potential against Ascaridia galli worms in vitro.
