Summary:Studies on clinical signs of dermatophytosis in Indonesia, particularly the development of skin lesions on the dogs, are little known. This study aimed to determine the development of clinical lesions of dermatophytosis caused by Microsporum canis infection in local dogs. The material used in this study were pure cultures of M. canis and eight healthy local dogs (Canis familiaris) aged 6-8 months. There was two group of subject: group I consist of four dogs which infected at right sublumbal skin after hair already shaved, and group II consist of four dogs which infected at right sublumbal skin after hair already shaved and also at left sublumbal skin without shaved. Development of macroscopic lesions observed until day 14 post-infection and analyzed descriptively. The results showed lesions on the skin in the form of erythema, crusting, and scales initially does not appear in healthy dogs, but appeared on 4th day which then continues to develop until the 14th day post infection. Based on these results can be concluded that the lesions of dermatophytosis caused by M. canis in dogs in the form of erythema, crusting, and scales relatively can be temporary confirmed clinically from 4th day post-infection. The development of lesions on the skin without shaved has more rapid than development at shaved lesion.
