ETD This study aims to prove the efficiency of the use of a compound sentence in abstract. Therefore, this study focuses on the use of a compound sentence in abstract. It covers the type of conjunction which is most used in abstract and the tendency of the writers in writing abstract through the realation of meaning and syntactic structure analysis. In order to reach the objectives of the study, this research uses the Library study method, while data were taken purposively. The results of the analysis shows that compound sentences is most widely used in abstract, on the contrary the use of a compound sentences in abstract are less varied. The writers tend to use coordinate conjunction in compound sentences. Although compound sentences are less varied in abstract, the use of compound sentences can support the achievement of the efficiency of the abstract. In addition, this study finds that the compound sentence is not the only cause of the efficiency of the abtract.
