Summary: | The advancement of technology makes the accessibility and utilization of
information become more quick and accurate. Based on the Law 11/2008 and
Presidential Decree 3/2003, 2003, the Indonesian Governments used the internet to
disseminate information for the effectivity and efficiency of public services. Spatial
information is part of this shared information. Similar to other information, maps on
the governments site have to be easy to read and interpreted. The following essential
map components comprises of are map title, north arrow, scale, legend, projection
system, grid, data source and map maker. Currently, there is no information on the
availability and quality of the maps on the official website of dsitrict/city
government. Therefore, it is necessary to check the availability and evaluate the
quality of maps on the local governments official websites.
This research goal aims to survey all official local government websites to
check maps availability and evaluate their quality in terms of cartographic aspects
and maps readibility. The research approach is using a passive survey method and a
combination of visual evaluation and checklist of information material. The visual
evaluation is used to know the map type, readability level and visual variables. The
checklist of information is used to compare the information of maps with standard of
visual information of maps like title, north arrow, scale, projection system, grid,
legend, data source and map maker.
The result shows that the local government were not maximum in using the
internet for spatial information (map) dissemination. There are only several local
governments official website that have maps and even fewer who have readable map.
454 districts/cities having an official governments website, there are 1224 maps
contained in a few sites. 50% of them are readable and 43.94% of them are displayed
the visual information of maps. |
