1942� is pointed to be my title thesis. It analyzes the existence of �Indo� people in
Magelang town. It would also attempt to leak their lifestyle habit at the town
surrounding during colonial time. This round-about explanations embrace and
strengthen by kind sources of reading magazines, newspapers, colonial report as
well as observing contemporarily photo album between 20th century to 1942.
The prevailing Decentralization Law in 1903 brought about town changing
status spread out several big towns in Java to gain the so-called gemeente.
Magelang got the status three years later. Since then, autonomical government did
some dazzling make-ups to build such �modern� symbols due to many tourists
whispered by several tourism attractions in Magelang. Hotels, movie theaters,
department stores, costumiéres stood out to fulfil lifestyle necessity of growing
people coming in and out. In this sense, the town culture identified as closed as
�modern� culture. It led to change �Indo� people lifestyle who were especially
proud of �tempo doeloe� of typically Indische culture before 20th century. The
existence of European �totok� or the European full-bloods in Magelang showed a
leading role for �Indo� family in particular. Indisch culture becoming faded as
merely shadow in 20th century. |
