SAMANTRAYA AND THE EXISTENCE OF RATOH DUEK DANCE IN YOGYAKARTA

The objectives of this graduating paper are learning more about Aceh traditional dance especially Ratoh Duek dance. It Also observes the differences between Saman dance and Ratoh Duek dance. Samantraya is one of Ratoh Duek dance group in Yogyakarta, in the process of running this community of course there are many challenges and obstacles encountered. The methods used for collecting the data are observations and interview. The writer obtained the data from books, magazine, and internet. The writer was visiting Aceh dormitory and Sanggar Cut Nyak Dien at Jl. Kartini, Sagan Yogyakarta for doing the interview. She interviewed the manager and the member of Samantraya, and observed all of Samantraya activity. Conclusions for this paper are Samantraya is one of Ratoh Duek contemporary dance groups formed by some students of Faculty of Cultural Sciences. This Ratoh Duek dance is similar to the other sitting dances from Aceh, but there are some very noticeable differences. The Members of Samantraya have many challenges for running this group, one of the challenges is none of them is Acehnese.
