Description
Summary:The irrigation of root canal is an important step to support the success of root canal treatment due irrigation facilitates necrotic tissue, microorganisms and residual dentin disposal of infected root canals. Irrigation solution used in endodontic therapy is sodium hypochlorite and Chlorhexidine. The irrigation materials may produce chemical changes and physical properties of dentine. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of a combination of 2.5% NaOCl irrigation solution and 2% chlorhexidine to the root canal micro dentine hardness. This study uses 10 single root premolars cut in the cemento enamel junction (CEJ). The teeth roots that have been prepared in a vertical cut into the medial and distal then planted in acrylic resin blocks. Twenty pieces of teeth were divided into 4 groups, group I was applied NaOCl 2.5%, group II was applied Chlorhexidine 2%, group III was applied combination of 2.5% NaOCl and 2% chlorhexidine, group IV was applied Saline as a control group. Before treatment, initial value of micro hardness tester with Vickers micro hardness was calculated. Once applied irrigation solution for 20 minutes, the micro hardness value measured. Changes in the micro hardness value data were analyzed with Kruskall Wallis test and Mann-Whitney U test. The results show there are significant changes to the type of irrigation solution root canal dentin micro hardness. The conclusions are all kinds of irrigation solution causes a decrease in micro hardness values, where the combination of NaOCl solution 2.5% and 2% Chlorhexidine causes a decrease in the highest micro hardness when compared to other groups.
