SINTESIS MAGNETIT Mg/Al-NO3 HIDROTALSIT (MHT) DENGAN METODE KOPRESIPITASI DAN APLIKASINYA SEBAGAI ADSORBEN [AuCl4]-

Magnetite Mg/Al-NO3 hydrotalcite (MHT) has been synthesized and its application to adsorp [AuCl4] has been studied. The synthesized was done by a coprecipitation method of Mg(NO3)2 and Al(NO3)3 at pH 10 with Mg (II)/Al (III) molar ratio (2:1). The effect of calcination on the adsorption ability w...

SILALAHI , Prof. Dr. Sri Juari Santosa, M.Eng ETD Magnetite Mg/Al-NO3 hydrotalcite (MHT) has been synthesized and its application to adsorp [AuCl4] has been studied. The synthesized was done by a coprecipitation method of Mg(NO3)2 and Al(NO3)3 at pH 10 with Mg (II)/Al (III) molar ratio (2:1). The effect of calcination on the adsorption ability was studied by first calcinating the MHT at temperature 450 ºC to form calcinized MHT (CMHT). The synthesized MHT and CMHT were characterized using Fourier Transform Infra-red (FTIR) spectrophotometer and X-ray diffraction (XRD). The application of MHT and CMHT as adsorbent of [AuCl4]- was studied by examining the effect of pH, adsorption kinetics and isotherm. Desorption of [AuCl4]- from MHT and CMHT was performed to analyze the possibility to recover [AuCl4]-. The results showed that the distribution of magnetite on hydrotalcite structure changed the Mg/Al-NO3 hydrotalcite to had not only a good adsorption ability but also magnetic properties so that the separation process was able to done easily by employing external magnetic field. The adsorption of [AuCl4]- by both MHT and CMHT was optimum at pH 3, followed the pseudo-second order adsorption kinetics with adsorption rate constant 3.5 x 10-3 g/mg minute for MHT and 2 x 10-3 g/mg minute for CMHT. The adsorption capacity of MHT for [AuCl4]- as determined according to Langmuir isotherm model was 75.19 mg/g and that of CMHT as determined according to Freundlich isotherm model was 8.95 mg/g. Calcination treatment of MHT was unable to enhance the adsorption capacity. [Yogyakarta] : Universitas Gadjah Mada 2013 Thesis NonPeerReviewed , DAME SARI V.
