Bambang Priyono, S.U. ETD Fear is an emotional reaction that comes quickly, characterized by a strong response action and a wave of sympathetic nerves. Dental extraction is the most feared treatment than any dental treatment. Dentists as a health practitioners need to understand the causes of fear and how to manage it so that patient could follow the treatment. Music as a non-pharmacological technique is inexpensive, noninvasive, has no known side-effects, and the easiest way to cover dental fear so that could used by dentists in overcoming the patient�s fear during dental extraction. This research uses a quasi-experimental design. Subjects were patients in Puskesmas Tegalrejo Yogyakarta aged 18-30 years are divided into two groups: treatment and control. Treatment group listened to music as their wishes during dental extraction procedure. Assessment of patients used Dental Fear Survey were modified by researcher. Hypothesis was tested by independent t-test. The results showed a significant difference between a fear of the treatment group and the control group (t = -12.541, p = 0.000, p <0,05). The conclusion from this study were patients who listened to music during dental extraction procedure does not experience fear, music affects patients in a way to distract patients from pain and helps to create a comfortable feeling during the procedure.
