Description
Summary:anaerobic Dry socket is a common complication and causes a very severe pain after tooth extraction. Patients who experience dry socket have a high number of bacteria, so that the administration of antibacterial is required to reduce the incidence of dry socket. Metronidazole is an antibiotic that is the safest option to be used and has been proven to overcome the infections caused by anaerobic bacteria effectively. Drug delivery system applied into the tooth socket can be more effective with a carrier material, which is easily resorbed inside the body. Hydrogel reinforced with carbonate apatite is expected to be an alternative carrier material for effective drug delivery system in treating dry socket infection. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of different compositions of the hydrogel and carbonate apatite on the metronidazoles release profile. Hydrogel-carbonate apatite specimens containing the metronidazole were made by dissolution process of metronidazole into gelatin-carbonate apatite system. The composition of hydrogel-carbonate apatite used in this study were varied into three groups: 10:0
