Summary: | Interpersonal communication is one way to create human relations. Through this
way, it could develop from its first stage, knowing each other, into a deeper
closeness, mentioned as intimacy. Along with the communication technology
development, face to face communication is not the only way to establish
intimacy. Nowadays, there are many new interpersonal communication medias
with its various excess. Therefore, intimacy could also be built through new
media.
On the other hand, the intimacy is not only created on the opposite sex, but also
on the same-sex. The homosexual case in Indonesia is still considered taboo,
hence not so many homosexuals disclose their self in the society. This also
happens when they are having same-sex relationship. They are not able to express
their feeling due to the stigma of the Indonesia society.
Finally, this ethnographic research spesifically discusses how the intimacy, that is
owned by homosexual couples, could be formed through new media. There are
four informants, two lesbians and two gays, who are participated in this study for
six monts. The informants were unstructured interviewed in several meetings. The
researcher also analyze the message on the media they used. The result shows that
each informants have different social-psychology needs. It is affecting to their
reason in choosing the media. Therefore, the intimacy is also different in every
informants, depending on their intensity and closenees with their mate. As for the
process of forming intimacy, it is felt as an aggregate process. Intimacy is not
something separated, its process is the intimacy itself. |
