Description
Summary:The weathering process of soil from organic substances is natural phenomenon which often happens in the nature. This process requires time and is highly influenced by its surrounding environment, so that they also influence the change on carbon activities (14C). At the start of weathering the 14C activity is assumed to be 100 pMC (Percentage of Modern Carbon) with zero years old. Overtime the 14 In this study the collection of soil sample was performed in Goa Seropan, Semuluh Village, Semanu Sub-District, Gunung Kidul Regency, Special Region of Yogyakarta. The measurement of the number of soil sample activity used Liquid Scintillation Counter (LSC) detector Tri-Carb 2910 TR type. The method used in determining the age of soil was radiocarbon dating with CO C activity keeps disintegrating so that the weathering substance ages. 2 absorption method with natural isotopes analyzed with radiocarbon dating being 14C radioisotopes in CO2 The results of this study showed that the oldest age of the sample was the sample from the depth of 30 cm from soil surface, aging 4956 ± 241 years and with pMC value of 53.956 ± 1.5965 %. While the youngest age of the sample was at 10 cm depth from the soil surface, which was 3117 ± 432 years and pMC value 67.971 ± 3.55 %. Average soil formation rate in this study was 0.109 mm/year.
