This research aims to analyze and explain the factors that cause conflict that occurred around University of Haluoleo Kendari South East Sulawesi, and to analyze and explain the efforts of conflict prevention around it. The method used in this research was empirical legal research (sociological). The techniques of data collecting use field research and literature research. The research was located at H.E.A Mokodompit Street around University of Haluoleo Kendari. The population of the research was whole of the people who live around University of Haluoleo kendari. Sampling technique was determined by non random sampling method by using purposive sampling. This research was qualitative research by using descriptive method. Based on the results of the study showed that the factors cause conflicts between groups of society that occured around university of haluoleo kendari south east sulawesi were seizure of political resources, segregation social form and formation of stereotype, uncontrolled environment, the groups hurt in the historical social relation, the high of criminality and because of economic factors. Efforts in handling the conflict between groups of society that occurred in Kendari especially around University of Haluoleo can be divided into two forms of overcoming effort are repressive and preventive form. Repressive prevention effort is done by the police which various actions taken such as conducting safeguards around the site of the conflict after conflict occurred, doing a raid weapons and liquor to citizens who reside in the surrounding areas of conflict, and also arrest the actors who involved in the conflict. While, the preventive effort is an attempt to handle the conducive factors that cause conflict between ethnic groups are not fully implemented.
