Summary:Background: The nose is the entrance for pollutants or particle from the environment. Consequently, there can be epithelial changes such as inflammation, metaplasia, dysplasia and malignancy. If directly exposed to gasoline vapor for a long period it can induce irritation in the affected areas and can form inflammation, metaplasia and dysplasia. Purpose: The purpose of this study is to know medical evidence of the nasal mucous cytologic features difference between gas station workers and workers that did not work on gas station in the city of Yogyakarta. Design of study: cross sectional trial. Method: There were 48 randomly selected subjects consisting of 24 subjects in the exposured group and 24 subjects in the unexposured group. The subjects consisted of 32 men and 16 women between 17-55 years old. The specimens were taken from the anterior 1/3 inferior nasal conchae by brushing and then examined under microscope to evaluate the changes that may occured. The Statistical analysis used descriptive, X2, logistic regression. Result: From 48 subjects we found that 11 subjects (22,9%) had inflammation in the exposured group and 6 subjects (12,5%) had no disorder in the unexposured group
