Malay lives in the hamlet of Kuala Rosan, while Dayak Kancing'k lives in Lubuk Piling. Both of the hamlets are very close geographically, it is only separated by the Buayan River. Although The two ethnic groups live in one location, their ethnic�s identity, language, religion, and behaviors are different. Basically the Malay who lives in Kuala Rosan is Dayak Kancing'k people who converted to Islam. Therefore, the Malay Kuala Rosan and Dayak Kancing'k Lubuk Piling still related. However, between the two groups there is hostility in their social relation which never escalates into open conflict. The purpose of this thesis is to investigate the background and motives behind the hostility between the Malay and Dayak Kancing'k. This thesis gives an answer of question, what are the main cause of social tensions between Malay and Dayak Kancing'k, and why the social tension is never escalate into physical conflict. Data for this study obtained by did participation observation research methods conducted over three months at the sites, that is Desa Kuala Rosan, District Meliau, Sanggau regency, West Kalimantan.
