Description
Summary:There are two forces that affect a mass media in constructing the news, these forces are external and internal. Economic factors are the external force that affects the appearance of media content to the financier, audience and advertiser. While the internal force came from The journalist him/herself which his/her attitudes, values, beliefs and particular orientation in ideology, politics, religion, educational background, gender, ethnicity, will affect the constructed reality. This research focuses on the politics of the local media in Pemilukada Aceh 2012 through framing analysis. The purpose of this study are to see the implementation and to explain how is the political tendencies of Serambi Indonesia and Modus Aceh as the main media in constructing and framing an event and then affecting the Pemilukada Aceh 2012. This study uses the theory of frame analysis to analyze the local media and polemic in Pemilukada Aceh 2012. This study also uses the method of qualitative approach through the framing analysis theory by Robert E. Entman as an analytical framework to expose the power of media framing, wrapped up with Antonio Gramsci's theory of hegemony to dissect how the pattern formed by the media can dominate the readers as a continuation of the framing analysis that occurred in the main mass media of Aceh which is responsible of framing the news about the polemic of Independent candidates. The steps of this research is to propose four ways of framing in the news, namely the identification of the problem (problem identification), identification of the cause of the problem (causal interpretation), moral evaluation (moral evaluation), a means of overcoming the problem (treatment recommendation). The results are shown in geopolitics in Aceh, where the local media did not have the greater freedom in constructing reality. The only benchmark used is editorial discretion (redactional concept) of each media which is highly possible to be influenced by the interests of ideology, political and economical. In relation to the polemic of the independent candidates, researcher turned out to find some differences between the two media reports, Serambi Indonesia constructing the news differently and provide a positive image. Exposing the rejection of independent candidates in constructing the news will affect on the already heated up political condition in Aceh, up to the national level which force a policy to be made to postpone the election. Serambi Indonesia has positioned themselves as the independent and impartial mass media, which tend towards their self-existence as the local media, and did not get caught up in the unstable condition of local politics. While Modus Aceh, in constructing the news also gives a positive image and in-depth emphasis in every reports. News in Modus Aceh emphasis that Partai Aceh is a local party that dominates across the province which has been transformed from a resistance movement into a political movement. Modus Aceh saw that, political tensions which delays the entry of independent as the reason of the postponed election schedule. In addition, Modus Aceh exploit the realtime ideological and political issues as the news commodities to make their way into the market.
