Patients with diabetes mellitus have higher risks to become persistent stromal oedema after intraocular surgery than normal patients. It is caused by morphologic and functional abnormalities of corneal endothelium in patients with diabetes melitus.. The purpose of this study to determine whether there was significant difference of corneal endothelium cells loss after manual small incision cataract surgery between patients with diabetes mellitus and patients without diabetes mellitus. This is cohort study and subjects were patients of senile cataract with diabetes mellitus and without diabetes mellitus undergoing manual small incision cataract surgery in Dr. Sardjito General Hospital, who met inclusive and exclusive criteria. Subjects of this study consisted of 25 senile cataract patients with diabetes mellitus and 25 senile cataract patients without diabetes mellitus undergoing manual small incision cataract from May to August 2013. Characteristics of subjects consisting of sex, age, cataract grading, are similar between both groups (p>0.05). Mean duration of surgery of both groups, hve no statistically significant difference in patients with diabetes mellitus, was 36.56 + 5.49 minutes [Yogyakarta] : Universitas Gadjah Mada 2013 Thesis NonPeerReviewed , Sri Subekti and , Dr.Tri Wahyu Widayanti, SpM(K).Mkes (2013) PERBEDAAN KEHILANGAN SEL ENDOTEL KORNEA SETELAH MANUAL SMALL INCISION CATARACT SURGERY PADA PASIEN KATARAK YANG MENDERITA DIABETES MELITUS DENGAN YANG TIDAK MENDERITA DIABETES MELITUS.
