Description
Summary:Ngurah Rai Grand Forest is the largest mangrove rehabilitation area in Bali which is about 1,373.5 ha. One of the objectives the rehabilitation activities was to establish the fuctions of mangrove ecosystem as a carbon sink. This study aimed (1) to estimate the above ground biomass carbon, the below ground biomass carbon and the soil carbon (2) to estimate the dynamic of carbon stored in the mangrove rehabilitation area of Ngurah Rai Grand Forest. Systematic sampling aproach was applied by dividing the area into 34 grids of 10,000 m2. One plot was established in each grid to estimated the amount of above and below ground biomass carbon by measuring tree diameter and identifying the mangrove species within the plot. Disturbed and undisturbed soil samples were also collected from the plot to estimate the organic carbon content in the mud subtrate and to estimate the bulk density, respectively. The dynamic of the amount of carbon stock was identified by calculating Current Carbon Stock (CCS), Carbon Carrying Capacity (CCC) and Carbon Sequestration Potential (CSP) in mangrove rehabilition area, Ngurah Rai Grand Forest. The results showed that the amount of carbon stored in the mangrove rehabilition area consists of: (a) the total of above ground carbon (AGC) was 10,803,114.24 ton C with the carbon density of 7,865.39 + 5,756.10 ton C/ha
