Topic Symbol and icon on Tugu Yogyakarta after renovated 1889 aim to Freemason. Problems and Purpose Since the renovation after the 1867�s earthquake, the shape of Golong Gilig monument was not shown anymore, but now it has been transformed into Tugu Yogyakarta. The renovation after the earthquake which has been done by the Dutch government did not explain the reasons of changing the shape of the Golong Gilig monument and brought up the symbols and icons which are identical to Freemason.The Semiotic theory which was presented by Peirce was considered able to explain the existence of symbols and icons on the Tugu Yogyakarta.This research aims to present and explain the answer of the questions about the existence of Freemason symbols and icons on the Tugu Yogyakarta since the renovation in 1889. Method The method of this research is inductive reasoning with explorative and descriptive characteristic. The analysis of this research was done by combining the data which has been obtained, that is freemason symbols and icons in some places and the other cities. Then enclose were referred of two books relating of Freemason activities in the archipelago. Both of books explained about the development of organization�s members which was very fast and was started by the Dutch, followed by the Count of Mataram. Conclusion The existence of Loji in Yogyakarta along with its symbols and icons was supposed to be an important part in revealing the influence of freemason after the renovation of Tugu Yogyakarta. Kraton could not give much information about the renovation. It could be a connection with the several Counts of Mataram who were mentioned that they got involved in Freemason issue. Nowadays, the Tugu Yogyakarta has so many symbols which were not originally from Javanese culture, but seems strange and identical to Freemason.
