Summary: | Multichannel Analyzer (MCA), is an instrument to record the nuclear
radiation spectrum data. At first, MCA is built as a stand-alone instrument
provided with graphical data display. The ability of the Personal Computer (PC)
to analyze the data, high capacity data storage, data transfer and attractive visual
data display could help to analyze the data of MCA better. These reason increase
the need of PC integrated MCA. The MCA system can be built in a simple circuit,
from some analogue and digital electronic components inside Programmable
System on Chip (PSoC) Microcontroller.
The purpose of this research is to build the system of PSoC-based MCA. To
know the performance of the system, test of dead time of the system, the Integral
Non-Linearity (INL) test and the Differential Non-Linearity (DNL) test had been
taken. A software to analyze the radiation counting data has been built.
The MCA system that had been built before consist of some circuits such as
peak detector circuit, data conversion circuit, discriminator circuit and digital data
transfer circuit. The result of the research showed the dead time of the system
reached up to 2.573 x 10
-3
second. Based on the result, the INL and DNL value
from the system respectively achieved at 1.62% and 57.49%. The linearity of the
system was greatly affected by the peak detector circuit. By further developing the
MCA system built before, the system of MCA is expected to meet the standard
needed. |
