Summary: | The focus of this study is to analyze of the equivalence translation of
Indonesian idioms into Korean. The objectives of this research are to describe the
equivalence form of the SL idioms into TL idioms translation and to compare
them to identify their meaning equivalence.
The research data were collected from Laskar Pelangi Novel by Andrea
Hirata and its Korean translation무 (Mujigae Hakyo) by Kim
Seonhee. This study employed descriptive method, that the research was
conducted by analyzing SL idioms and their translations in TL idiom, then
compared them to know their meaning equivalence. The data were idiomatic
expressions and were collected in the form of sentences.
The findings of this study show that most of idiomatic expressions are
translated with the strategy of paraphrase. Furthermore, the translation by
omission is in the second rank after the translation by paraphrase. According to
the meaning equivalence from all of the collected data, the results shows that the
translation of SL idioms into TL idioms has equivalence in meaning and in the
message content. Translating idiomatic expressions is not easy because of the
different culture and linguistic terms of the source and target language. |
