Description
Summary:The increasing land demand caused by the buildings can causing land use variation. A varied use of land and community activities around the river will cause differences in water quality. This research takes place on Gajahwong River. This research aims to determine variations of water quality in Gajahwong River and studies factors that influence those variations. The sampling is done by using purposive sampling method based on the land use variation. Parameters analyzed on the laboratory are pH, BOD, COD, DO, nitrate, phosphate, and Escherichia Coli bacteria. The field measurement and observation are done to find out the discharge data during sample collection and physical parameters such as smell, temperature, and electrical conductivity. The interview is performed to determine factors that influence water quality. This research uses descriptive analysis and support by graphic, table, and frequencies table. The result showed that Gajahwong River water quality variations had several parameters that over the class II water quality standard. Those parameters are DO (3.6 mg/L), BOD, (24.7 mg/L), COD (53 mg/L), and Escherichia Coli bacteria (93000 JPT/100 mL). The highest percentage before city are electrical conductivity and nitrate, city area are DO and phosphate and after city are temperature, BOD, COD, and E-Coli Bacteria. The influencing factors that effected Gajahwong River water quality are domestic waste and drainage-canal. Before city area was influenced by garbage dump, city area by soap and detergent waste, and area after city by foliage, human and animal waste, and accumulation from the area upon it.
