Summary:Medical technology development has grown very rapidly all over the world. This condition could happen because hospitals need to improve their service, especially for inpatients. The communicationthat is used in many hospitals still in one way where paramedics need to ask the patient before giving actions. Actually, the action could be more effective if the paramedics have already known the problems before they come to the patient�s room. Futhermore, it will be more effective if every room has paramedics that already bring all of the equipments. That is why paramedic robot is needed. Until a robot has been completely built, there are many researches need to be investigated. One of them is speech recognition. In this research, we used hidden markov model. There are two main steps for making a speech recognition system: training and recognition. In the research, HTK was used to build the speech recognition system. The speech recognition system with HMM methods and dependent speakers method achieved a recognition rate of 93.64%, for independent speaker method the recognition rate is 59.21%.
