Summary:This research tries to analyse the development of SMEs in Malaysia through SMIDEC policy. Malaysia is a unique countries which separated their politic and economic sector by ethnicity. Bumiputera or Malay ethnic have controlling political area, and Chinese in economic one. The disparities in economic life, between bumiputera and Chinese are getting real. This situation lead the government to change it. One of the efforts that have been launched by government is SMIDEC. SMIDEC was the policy package that tried to develop SMEs in Malaysia. This policy is quite interesting because it showed the great concern of Malaysia government on promoting, boosting, and supporting bumiputera�s economic life. By implementing this policy, Malaysia government expected bumiputera to be more competitive in economic area which have been controlled by Chinese. The main goal of the policy was increasing the number of middle class of bumiputera so they could achieve social and economic balances between ethnicity in Malaysia. Moreover, this paper will explain about the role of Malaysia government and how the political process of the implementation of SMIDEC policy.
