Summary:This succinic acid plant will use maleic acid and pure hydrogen as raw material. The design capacity of this plant of 30,000 tons / year and will be operated continuously for 24 hours / day with total operating time of 330 days in a year. This plant can be categorized as a medium-risk plant due to the medium operating pressure conducted in the reactor, and the fact that the succinic acid product is slighly flammable. Maleic acid that will be used as raw material is maleic acid crystal amounting 30.278 tons and 516,64 tons of hydrogen in a year. Maleic acid will react with hydrogen at 90 °C and 15 atm pressure in a bubble reactor to produce succinic acid through hydrogenation reaction. The factory is planned to be built at 5 ha land in Kutai Kartanegara, Kalimantan, a total labor of 175 people. Investment costs comprises of capital equipment amounting to Rp 33.878.262.304,45 and US$ 11.327.645,03, also working capital amounting to Rp 4.801.174.291,92 and US$ 16.253.926,61. From the economic evaluation conducted, this plant will produce profit before taxes amounting of Rp 46,571,166,842.13, profit after taxes amounting of Rp 23,285,583,412.06, Return on Investment (ROI) before taxes amounted to 34.29%, ROI after taxes amounted to 17.14%, Pay Out Time (POT) before taxes is 2.26 years, POT after taxes that is 3.68 year, Break Event Point (BEP) of 58.31%, Shut Down Point (SDP) of 40.07% and Discounted Cash Flow Rate of Return (DCFRR) of 27.25%. Therefore it can be concluded that this plant is quite interesting in the investment terms.
