Summary: | Coastal areas have water resources characteristics that is relatively
poor compared to other areas so their potential as agricultural land is difficult to
be developed. In the southern coastal area of Srandakan district, Bantul
regency, Special Region of Yogyakarta which we observed there is an
agricultural drainage system that has the potential to be a supplier of
water demand for agricultural land in the vicinity. Sandy soil in this location is
very likely allowing water to seep into the ground. Therefore, this research
was conducted to determine the effect of the drainage system on
groundwater supply for coastal land in the lower reaches of the drainage
channel.
This research was conducted by taking the water level data directly in the
drainage channel and wells downstream. During these measurements,
precipitation and evaporation occured also collected. From these results,
the influence of water in the agricultural drainage systems to the water level in
the lower reaches during the rainy and dry season. The result is expected
to be considered as an alternative supply for irrigation water demands
when needed and can support the survival of casuarina.
The results showed that the groundwater flow obtained from the
water balance analysis which is allegedly come from agricultural drainage
channel has the maximum amount of 168.52 m3 and minimum of 125.64 m3 while
the depth of water in the drainage channel ranging between 0.56 m to 1.07
m and the maximum rainfall of 16.5 mm and a minimum of 0 mm.. However, the
influence of the depth of water in agricultural drainage channel to the
groundwater level is not significant, rainfall also has minimum effect on the
groundwater level. Groundwater flow can not be correlated with agricultural
drainage channels, so that the initial allegations that the water from agricultural
drainage channel has potential as a source of groundwater recharge to
support the survival of casuarina that will improve land resources in the coastal
area is still unproven. |
