Summary:Krengseng oil as the main material to produce frying oil have high intensity of yellow color and very cloudy. The objective of this study is to know the effect of kaolin as adsorben in bleaching process of krengseng oil Determination of temperature for kaolin activation was conducted with variation of kaolin that had activated at 200, 400, 600, 800 oC and without heated. Activated kaolin in optimum temperature then used in bleaching process with variation of adsorben added (1, 2, 3, 4, and 5%) in each variation of adsorben used those were kaolin and mixed of kaolin and activated carbon (10:1). The respon that was observed in this study is color changing of krengseng oil after bleaching process. This study showed that optimum temperature for kaolin activation is 400 oC. Bleaching process caused krengseng oil became clearer and have lower intensity of yellow color. The more concentration of kaolin added, the color changing became greater. The color changing after bleached with mixed kaolin and activated carbon (10:1) adsorben was slightly better than bleached with kaolin adsorben. The optimum concentration of kaolin as well as mixed of kaolin and activated carbon added was 4%.
