Winastuti D.A., M.P. ETD Lembupurwo coastal area known to have a unique ecosystem because these areas directly adjacent to the sea and the lagoon. Land in the area has a fairly extreme environmental conditions such as low nutrient content, high wind gusts, as well as salinity and high temperatures. This study aims to determine the species composition, spatial distribution patterns, and the relationship between the intensity of sunlight in the presence of understory vegetation in Casuarina equisetifolia. Retrieval of data in the field using the line transect method. Paths are made parallel to the shoreline and lagoon, the farthest distance between the line transect 175 meters. Plants under observation plots measuring 2x2 m were placed in alternate left and right at the observation point, the distance between the observation plots along the 25 m and the number of plots obtained at each point of observation is 30 pieces. Data collection was done with the study covercrop species identified below and assess the magnitude of each type of coverage that was in the plot. Study the value of the light intensity measured by luxmeter. Data analysis was performed by calculating the INP and looking for any type of spatial distribution patterns by using a dispersion index calculations and chi - square. Covercrop composition are found on the ocean side of the coastal area Lembupurwo consists of 12 species from 9 families. The kind that has a high INP value (65,77%) were Canavalia maritima, then Physalis angulata was 47,66 %, Ipomoea pes-caprae by 30,11%. While on the lagoon found 8 species of 6 families. INP high (82,17%) is Hoplismenus Burmani, then Wedelia biflora by 50,26%, Ipomoea pes-caprae by 39,09% and other species have less than 10% INP. Covercrop distribution patterns under the ocean side has a random pattern as 6 species and 6 species have clumped patterns. While on the lagoon found 4 types which have a random distribution pattern and 4 types clustered. Light intensity determine the presence and diversity of covercrop in Lembupurwo coastal. In the open condition with full light intensity locations dominated by Spinifex littoralis, Canavalia maritima and Ipomoea pes-caprae, whereas in closed conditions with low light intensity is dominated by the location and type of Wedelia biflora, Hoplismenus Burmani.
