Description
Summary:Background :Diabetes mellitus is a serious heterogeneous disease characterized by chronic blood glucose increase. Diabetes mellitus can lead to diabetic nephropathy, a microvascular complication, that may increase morbidity and mortality due to chronic renal failure. Ultrasound is one of several methods used to assess renal morphology with a quite high sensitivity and specificity, respectively 91.7% and 88.5%. This study tried to evaluate and analyze the renal cortical index of the renal between type 2 diabetes mellitus patients and normal individu. Methods : This was a crosss sectional analitic observational study. The subjects consisted of 31 type 2 diabetes mellitus patients and 31 non-diabetic subjects who volunteered to be examined with 3,5-5 MHz resolution B-mode US in Radiology Department of Dr. Sardjito General Hospital, in April 2013. Collected data wereproccessed and statistically analyzed using unpaired t test. Correlation between risk factors, other than diabetes mellitus, and renal cortical index were analyzed using multivariate linear regresion analysis. Renal cortical index in the type 2 diabetic patients expected to be significantly greater than normal individu. Results and discution :This study shows there are differences in renal cortical index in patients with diabetes mellitus occurrence ofsignificant thinning of the renal cortex compared to normal people. RCI values in healthy adults of 0.35 ± 0.05 over the value of 0.4 ± 0.03 expressed as abnormal. Renal cortical index indicates that large changes in afferent and efferent arterioles due to obstruction of blood flow and hypoxic ischemic renal ischemia occurs and renal papillary necrosis resulting in an increase in RCI. Conclusions :There are significant differences depletion of RCI in patients with type 2 diabetes compared to normal people. RCI value of type 2 diabetic patients significantly higher than non-diabetic patients. Multivariate analysis showed regrsiliniaer a significant correlation between the long-suffering DM, GDP, age and diabetes status.
