Description
Summary:Asphalt modification is one of the technologies used to improve the performance of an asphalt mixture. This study uses a synthetic elastomeric polymer modified asphalt and asphalt penetration 60/70 by using a mix-Wearing Course Asphalt Concrete (AC-WC). The purpose of this study was to determine the characteristics of Marshall and permeability coefficient values of the mixtures as well as determine the level of sensitivity to changes in levels of asphalt pavement in terms of the coefficient of permeability and Marshall Quotient. The research was conducted by making specimens with asphalt content variation is -1% and +1% of optimum bitumen content, as well as the optimum bitumen content. Tests that conducted are the Marshall testing with soaking time 30 minute and temperature 60oC and permeability testing with pressure 1 kg/cm2 and 2 kg/cm2. Asphalt content variation performed to determine the sensitivity to changes in levels of asphalt pavement. Sensitivity testing using statistical test with SPSS software with a significance level of 5%. Optimum bitumen content for polymer modified bitumen is 6.9% while the pen bitumen 60/70 is 6.8%, and the variation in levels of polymer modified bitumen for asphalt is 5.9%, 6.9%, and 7.9% while the asphalt pen 60/70 is 5.8%, 6.8%, and 7.8%. The use of synthetic elastomeric polymer modified improve stability and flow values in the mixture than asphalt pen 60/70. Permeability test shows that the value of the permeability coefficient on polymer modified asphalt is lower than the pen bitumen 60/70, this shows that the AC-WC mixtures using polymer modified asphalt is more impermeable than using pen bitumen 60/70. Statistical test results with that bitumen and polymer modified bitumen pen 60/70 is not sensitive to changes in asphalt content of 1% of the optimum bitumen content.
