Summary: | Equitable rural region development for developing countries such as Indonesia would work well if the access between regions that are separated by a river or cliff can be overcame to support the mobility of people and goods in that regions. One solution to meet that mobility needs is the construction of the bridge. Suspension bridge is an effective and efficient option as a means of transport to cross the river or cliff because it has a relatively long span than the other types of bridge.
Based on these considerations, a simple Side Span Free type of suspension bridge with 80 meters spans and 1,5 meters bridge decks wide was designed. Structural analysis of the bridge was done by the aid of SAP2000 program with variations of position of the pedestrian load. Then the results of structural analysis are used to design the details components.
Results of the design of the bridge that has been done show that the forces in the bridge components vary depending on the position and type of given loads. Pedestrian live load was the most influential load in the design, despite the fact that the full load is extremely rare. Maximum forces and reactions that occur in structural components of the bridge occurred when symmetry pedestrian live load is applied in full spans of the bridge. Symmetry load position need to be more considered over asymmetry load position. |
