Description
Summary:High-voltage system is an important component in electrical energy distributions. Some problems come when the higher voltage is applied, one of them is a corona discharge. Corona discharge is an electrical discharge brought on by the air ionization in area around the conductor. The discharge will occur when the potential gradient of the electric field around it is high enough to form a conductive region but not high enough to cause a breakdown. Corona is responsible for considerable loss of power. More of that, it leads to the deteriotation of insulation due tu combined action of the bombardment of ions and the chemical compounds formed during discharges. Because of some problems caused by corona, detection and prevention are important methods for designing and maintaining an electrical transmission system. In this research, corona detection from the sound produced by corona experiment is processed through frequency analysis. Then perform variations of the number of insulators and looping to see the stability of result. From the experiment, it is known that determining corona using human ear is too subjective and can be determine objectively by a frequency analysis. Result show that corona always produce the same sound frequency in each different insulator circuits.
